No, seriously, because that’s what you said to me and to everyone I know who is queer or is an ally or just believes in common decency and equality and that no one should experience discrimination because of any identity category.
I’m with you on freedom of speech and religion and separation of state. I am so there with you. But don’t give me ANY kind of spiel about how this is “for our children” or “for families” or about you being okay with your “gay friend” but then turning around and voting to say “fuck you and your equality.”
But you know what? Even out of my anger and disbelief — even though I’m angry that you are taking today from me, today when we should be celebrating a step forward but I’m left mourning this giant step back — I will treat you like a decent human being. That’s what’s lacking from your argument: the ability to put differences aside in the name of treating someone else who believes differently from you like a human being.
